Q: What happens after I send in my camper's registration form?
A: A confirmation letter, a map (if needed), a what-to-bring letter, and other additional information will be sent to you upon receipt of your registration.
Q: How many campers will be at each camp?
A: Each camp varies from week to week, but the maximum enrollment for each camp is limited to eighty campers unless otherwise noted.
Q: What about safety issues?
A: Camper safety is our first priority! That is why we hire a trained staff and have them certified in CPR and First Aid. That is also why each cabin and hogan cluster is staffed by a counselor, thereby maintaining an 8:1 ratio of campers to counselors.
Q: What is your policy on having visitors or leaving camp?
A: Campers should not plan to have visitors or to leave Maranatha during the week. However, if you have a special circumstance, Maranatha is always happy to work with you and your camper in whatever ways we can. Consequently, any visitors or departures shall be approved by and coordinated through the Associate Presbyter for Maranatha, the Head Counselor, and your camper’s counselor.
Q: Can I write to my camper?
A: Sure! Be sure to use the following addresses – 1091 Jeffery Drive, Scottsboro, Alabama 35769 or info@maranathaccc.org. It is always wise to send your letters the week before your child attends camp so that they can be delivered early during your camper’s stay.
Q: What if my child gets homesick?
A: Maranatha’s counselors are trained to help campers through these homesick times and have lots of experience dealing with this natural emotion.
Q: What if I get child-sick?
A: You can keep up with your camper by watching them in our daily slide shows! Just log onto www.maranathaccc.org and click on the week your camper is at Maranatha.
Q: Can I go to my camper’s cabin or help my camper make his or her bunk before I leave for the week?
A: Maranatha’s policy is that parents do not go to their camper’s cabin or bunk because this has been known to cause homesick feelings in both the camper and his or her bunkmates. The counselors do a great job in making sure each camper feels at home the moment they arrive at Maranatha, and if your camper should need any help in getting settled at camp, his or her counselor will make sure that everything is taken care of just right!
Q: Are cell phones allowed at camp?
A: Cell phones are not allowed at camp because of the feelings of homesickness they bring about. However, if your child should need to contact you at any time during his or her week at camp (or vice versa), the Maranatha staff will make sure to coordinate this as soon as possible.
Q: What time does camp begin and end?
A: Unless otherwise noted, our check-in for each camp begins promptly on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. and continues until 4:30 p.m. Please make sure that your camper arrives during this time as supper immediately follows registration. Our new pick-up time for each camp begins on Friday with supper at 5:30 p.m. and continues through worship until 7:00 p.m.
