Gene Joiner—Executive Director, MCCC
The Maranatha Ministry Team is thrilled to introduce Gene Joiner as the new Executive Director for the camp and conference center. After a whirlwind move from North Carolina, Gene began his ministry on November 15th.
Gene comes to Maranatha from Rockfish Camp & Retreat Center, a ministry of the North Carolina Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries, where he served as director for 4 years. Under his leadership, Rockfish dramatically increased year round camp attendance and doubled the staff.
References for Gene state he is a dynamic leader who is “spiritual, evangelical and faithful” with the ability to grow Maranatha into a spiritually grounded, financially sound, thriving center of ministry. His skills and experience include marketing, promotions and grant writing, summer camp leadership and growth, adult programming and retreat management.
Gene served as an Airborne Ranger in the US Army and was deployed to Korea for a year. He holds a B.S. in History from Appalachian State University and is working on his Masters in Christian Education at Drew University. Prior to working for Camp Rockfish, Gene was the head coach for the women’s basketball team at Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina. He also served as the Adventure Coordinator for a year at Holston Presbytery Camp & Retreat Center in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
Gene has been married to Anissa for 11 years and they have three children: Hannah 7, Madeline 6, and Kaleb 5. Anissa is a graduate of Campbell University.
Gene believes that,“camping ministry...provides an experience for families to encounter God in a place set apart with radical Christian hospitality, and a place for children and youth to grow and learn who they are in God’s eyes.”
